Location in Peru

The Reserve is in the state of Loreto in the Amazon basin region of northern Peru. It is located on the Tahuayo River on the lands of the Achual Native Community of Nuevo Jerusalen. The Tahuayo is a tributary of the Amazon river upstream from the jungle city of Iquitos which is accessible only by plane or boat For most visitors this will require a flight to Lima, the capitol of Peru, and a flight from Lima to Iquitos (about 1.5 hours) over the Andes.

Iquitos is a unique city very different in character and lifestyle than Lima. To reach Nuevo Jerusalen either a boat ride or a combination of bus and boat is required. Since it will take the greater part of a day to reach the village you should plan on spending a week there so that you will have ample time to explore the surroundings.
